Snow Again

Snow started to fall here in the north.  It settled and froze overnight.  By mid morning yesterday the snow looked wet, but we didn't test the theory by going out on slippery pavements or use the car.  There are sure to be icy patches on the roads.

More snow continues to fall, hasn't stopped and gets deeper and deeper by the day.  (It's now Friday).

I've shared snow photos before, but for the record here are the ones I've taken from windows in our house over the last few days.

The daffodils and irises are covered in a layer of snow.  The tulips that are just breaking through the earth in their pots will, no doubt, survive and give us pleasure as they bloom when the Spring finally arrives.

I rescued the daffodils, arranged them in a vase and placed them in the front bay window.

The covered yard is a useful place to over-winter our many pot plants. Tomato plants are stored on indoor window sills where they get warmth, light and a drink of water when necessary.

Neighbours have been out and about, but we stay put for now.  We're thankful for a roof over our heads, food in the store cupboard and hobbies that interest us. We think of those who are having to get to and from work and all who are not doing so well in difficult circumstances.
Take care everyone.
Thank you for coming by, Linda.

Snow!

Gale force winds were expected last night so we retired for the night hoping that all would be well.
It was still quite dark at 7 am when I looked out of the back bedroom window.  What a surprise to see snow.  (Photos taken from the windows)

An hour later our local daughter texted to see if we were all right as she had received reports that work colleagues in another nearby town had no electricity.  We're thankful that everything here is fine and we are warm and well. We're not snowed in on our slippery, steep hills * unless the snow turns to ice this evening as the temperature gets low.  * (This happened later on that evening and now we continue to stay indoors now that we have frozen paths and frozen snow on the roads). We're in contact with family and our church fellowship via the internet.

We can see right across the valley to the distant hills, also covered in snow.

There's even some blue sky and a glimmer of sunshine. (Although this did not last long as the wind gained momentum once more).

We think of those who are experiencing strong winds, heavy rain and snowy conditions around our UK regions.  Take care everyone wherever you are.   Stay well and safe.

I wish you a peaceful Advent season.

Snow again

We've woken up to another fall of snow which is coming down as I write.  There's been little of interest that I could think of to write about since my last blog post, although I did manage to go out for a couple of walks in the neighbourhood after the last lot of snow had melted. This allowed us to get out and about on two days when there were a few hours of sunshine.  I've developed an aching knee and as I haven't been doing anything strenuous to strain any ligaments it must be arthritis setting in.  The only option is to keep moving indoors and resting in between my walking routine.  Some good news is that our daughter, two friends and other colleagues who work in the medical profession in local hospitals have had their first vaccination against the Covid virus.

Here are a few photos from my walks on the local Common land, along the lane by the high school and in the park.  I'll share some more of my walks another day.  I hope to catch up with your news soon.  I hope that you have a good day whatever the circumstances are where you are.

Winter Weather

Snow started to fall late yesterday evening and we woke up to a fairly light sprinkling across our neighbourhood.  However, not far away it was much worse and the bad weather continues to cause difficulties for those needing to travel.

Any sort of gardening is impossible. The roses that have been blooming continuously throughout the year and producing the only colour in the Winter garden look bedraggled.

At least the pelargoniums that my husband keeps and propagates in the covered yard ready to plant out at a suitable time are surviving.  We remember that the snow is only be to expected at this time of the year, that there are bulbs pushing up out of the ground and will eventually bloom and the weather will improve as the weeks go by.
