A rich tapestry

Our Week

As you can see the roses and carnations have survived in the cool of our entrance hall.  One rose shivelled up a bit so it was removed. The carnation buds didn't open.  I refreshed the water and put them in a smaller vase.

Thankfully, the weather is less hot and we've just had a shower of rain.  Mr P is resting again after trimming some more of the hedge.

The phlox plants are flowering - not my favourite colour of candy pink, but they do have a sweet fragrance.

The agapanthus and other flowers were refreshed by the rain.  I feel happier when it's cooler as I'm not a lover of being out in the sun.

However, thanks to the sunshine the tomatoes are ripening nicely and many of the large plum ones need to be picked and bottled.  The rest will be used in salads as they ripen.

My friend and I postponed our meet up in the park as we wouldn't have enjoyed a walk in the heat.  Instead Mr P and I went to the walk-in vaccination centre as before and had our over 75s Covid vaccination.  It took us a couple of days to get over the sore arm.  Covid cases are on the increase again and I know that hospitals are struggling as there are shortages of staff in all departments.  That's the reality of life right now.

Our car that we bought last year has to go into a garage for the Ministry of Transport roadworthy test this month.  We need the car to get around the local area especially for shopping and medical appointments at the city hospital and for longer trips to see family members who live at a distance.  We've had an invitation to an engagement party in Berkshire at the beginning of next month that we're looking forward to.

That's all the news this week.  I hope you're having a good week yourselves and you're keeping well.  Thank you for your comments on my last blog post.  All the best for the weekend.

Our Weekend

Our local daughter called by at the weekend and brought us a beautiful bouquet of white roses and yellow carnations.  I arranged them in a crystal glass vase and put them in the entrance hall where it's slightly cooler and where they should last longer.  The yellow carnations will look pretty when they open.  It's a lovely colour combination.  Going around the garden I see that the white foxgloves are losing their flowers and going to seed.  I cut off the top of a branch of one of them to put in the arrangement, but mostly I'll keep others in situ and will probably collect the dry seed heads.

We three had lunch together in a shady spot in the garden - pizza from a bakery, our plum cherry tomatoes and plenty of iced water.  Mr P had his home made wine as we didn't intend to go anywhere.
Later we watched the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championship women's singles final match that Saturday afternoon and then the men's finals on the Sunday afternoon, both played to a high standard and very exciting.  It was a relaxing weekend.
Today is going to be another hot day by UK standards. We shall continue to enjoy the good weather, the garden and leisurely interests.  We're very thankful that we can do so in retirement.  Shady places are the best places to be at the moment!
I hope you also had a good weekend.  Speak again soon.
