A rich tapestry

Gardening in July

I'm very happy with our small back garden enclosed with a hedge as I love the background of greenery surrounding the plot.  At the moment the garden is lush with vegetation as we've had sunshine in the daytime and rain during the night.

In one corner by the garage three conifers were taken out.  Behind is the stone wall that surrounds the front garden and side of the property. I would like to put a high trellis fence there so that climbers can grow up it.  The vegetable plot is full of produce so that area cannot be disturbed at the moment.  However, it's good to have another paved seating area which was part of the original layout of the garden. I'm not sure what we'll do with the plastic 'propagator/greenhouse' which stood there.

There were a few bags of chopped up branches, but the conifer tree trunks are being used as posts for fencing in another area of the garden behind the back hedge.

Whilst looking around at the area that is being worked upon I saw a small toad (?). I don't think it's a frog as we haven't a pond in the garden.  It scuttled back into a pile of bits and pieces of wood. It's always good to leave some areas of wildness in the garden to give shelter to small creatures. We have plenty of untidy areas like that! I hope the toad will enjoy some of the slugs lurking in the garden. The baby slugs are everywhere climbing up the sunflower stalks, stripping the leaves as they munch away and living beneath flower pots.

dianthus 'Tequila Sunrise' is looking good

....the English lavender in the front garden is heavy with flowers
and had to be propped up and tied to the hand rail along the drive.
