Five on Friday

Hello everyone.  I hope you've had a good week.  I'm joining in Amy's Five on Friday link-up. You can find the link-up and see whose participating here.

Our local grandchildren celebrate their birthdays in September seven days apart from one another so this week I'm sharing some of the photos taken over the years when we've been on holiday in Italy. It has been fun looking through my photo archives and putting these collages together.
Over the years especially since we moved to Sheffield in our retirement it has been interesting to see the two of them develop, progress in their studies and out-of-school interests. Our grandson (now fourteen) enjoys sports, is a good all-rounder and is doing well in football as a goalkeeper and in rowing events. This year he was voted Sports Personality of the Year at his school.  As for our granddaughter it's hard to believe that she has just celebrated her eighteenth birthday. She has another year at college before she goes to university, but will visit different ones soon and apply for a place where she hopes to continue her studies in health sciences.

Our granddaughter hosted a birthday party for her best friends and we were invited to the informal buffet.  She bought and prepared the food, chicken, pasta salad, mini pizzas, filled rolls, small cakes and nibbles and also made the chocolate cake decorated with Kinder wafer biscuits and chocolate eggs.

We certainly ate well and enjoyed the party.  The weather was good and we were able to sit out in the garden during the early evening.  This week she's continuing the celebrations by going out for a meal in town with more of her friends.

Sunday was another sunny day so after lunch we went to Ladybower Reservoir and we walked from one side to the other along the walkway by the dam wall.  After the walk we went to the nearby Yorkshire Bridge Inn which is a pub and restaurant and had a drink in the garden.  I'll share more of the walk another time.

Meanwhile, I wish you a good day, a peaceful weekend  and I hope to speak to you soon.

Flower Wednesday

Today I'm joining Riitta's Flower Wednesday for the first time.
Autumn may be here for many of us, but there are
still flowers to enjoy in our gardens.
These were seen in our city's  Botanical Gardens recently.
Everything is still green, but some trees are beginning to change
and display colours of the season.

In the walled garden next to the library in the local park
there are some late blooming roses.

This is a view of the hills across the valley from one of our two local garden centres
and there's a cheerful display of begonias in the car park.

Wishing you a good Wednesday!
