A Special Event

The sun continues to shine so that means we've been either sitting out enjoying the warm weather or planting out those young plants that Mr P has been nurturing in the covered yard.  In between we've been watching some of the programmes being televised for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  As well as the Royal events in London community parties are taking place up and down the land. The lighting of special beacons at dusk yesterday evening was initiated by the Queen herself.  We're thankful that events are going smoothly and we rejoice in all that the Queen has meant to us over a long reign that continues to be carried out with dignity and grace.  I remember well the announcement on the wireless of King George VI's death, the Queen's Coronation and the school events that took place to mark that occasion so there's a sense of history in being a witness to this special Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Daughter D sent me photos of a tea party she went to in Berkshire as a guest of a good friend.  Here's a flavour of the event.

This morning I went to the village newsagent's to get a couple of newspapers.  Most of our neighbours are elderly, but the family next door had put up some flags and bunting and there were more flags, balloons and other decorations at the newsagent's and one of the village pubs opposite.

The flag was outside the newsagent's shop.

It was good to see photos in the newspapers of the Queen smiling, looking happy and relaxed as she saw and acknowledged the crowds of well wishers who were lining the wide road that leads to Buckingham Palace called the Mall. Over the palace came a formation of Royal Air Force aircraft, including planes forming the number 70 in the sky. The Red Arrows team flew over and there were trails of red, white and blue vapour which was a spectacular sight.  Apparently the vapour disperses straight away to contribute to the 'green economy project'.

Thank you for your visit.  Have a lovely weekend.
