A Neighbourhood Walk

The mural on the shutters of the café by the park.

Autumn is here now, but it's still sunny in our corner of the world.  I'm still having technical issues on my computer - this time with storage space.  I can't resolve the problems at the moment as I have no-one that I can ask.  (I've edited photos so that they're as small as possible for blog posts, for example, and used less of them as well as transferring those I edit into an extra hard drive storage system). I'll keep blogging as long as possible.

Yesterday I went for a walk down our lane in our neighbourhood.  The sun had brought out the bees and the butterflies that were feasting on the ivy flowers on the retaining wall of our garden. Later I saw more butterflies when I went further afield.

There are berries everywhere and the hydrangeas are also changing colour in local gardens.

There are piles of pumpkins in the supermarkets.

Thank you for coming by.  Have a good day!

A Neighbourhood Walk

We've been busy arranging Mr P's trip so I've not been able to keep up with blogging recently and my reading of your blogs and commenting have both been hit and miss.  I hope you're keeping well.

It's lilac time here and the trees in our immediate neighbours' garden have come into bloom along with other blossom.  I took a walk along the lane by our house yesterday (sunny weather) and this morning (cloudy) and went right around the island of houses formed by the crescent.

In our own garden the rosemary bush is flowering, the magnolia tree is still full of blooms and there's a pop of colour from the wallflowers.

The grape vines are beginning to produce leaves.

Spanish bluebells (above).  We've taken most of them out and left only a clump or two in the garden where they cannot spread.  They're pretty, but they're an invasive variety.  As yet I've not been able to go to the woods to see the blue haze formed by hundreds of the English bluebells.

The peonies are in bud.

There's a lot going on with the plants, young and old, and Mr P's flower and vegetable seedlings in the covered yard. They're all well established and we shall continue to look after them and the ones in the greenhouse. I'll share more another time.

Thank you once more for visiting.  Have a good rest of the week,
Linda.

Our week

Despite the stormy weather we've been out and about this week with some opportunities for me to do some short walks.  We've been thankful to have the car running smoothly as we've decided to start doing our own shopping and get out more when the weather is suitable.

I've also done some of the cooking of our evening meal and tried a new recipe of chicken and vegetable noodle soup. A cake was made last weekend for when our daughter came to visit and it's served well with some extra topping for Valentine's Day and for the rest of the week. :)

Yesterday I noticed that the daffodils in the garden are in bud.  Many are in a sheltered spot by the wall so they're behind with flowering compared with other sites in the neighbourhood.

daffodils by the churchyard wall

After doing the food shopping yesterday Mr P drove me up to the parish church as I was sure that the snowdrops would be out in the churchyard.

It was uplifting to see the cross of snowdrops in the grass had flowered once again this season and I had caught the snowdrops at their best.

In a few weeks time the snowdrops will be replaced by the daffodils that were planted some years ago.

The rhododendron tree is flowering again too.  In the distance you can see the vicarage.

New lamps have been installed along the path leading to the church door.
The style is in keeping with the Victorian age of the church.

There was evidence of the strong winds that we've been experiencing lately, but thankfully so far there doesn't seem to be reports of any damage here in the immediate neighbourhood.

Thank you once more for your visit to my blog.  Take care and I wish you a peaceful weekend.

Five on Friday

Early this morning I took a walk around the crescent-shaped lane where we live.  It's a dreary day today weatherwise, but I was cheered by the colours in nature, the ceramic and the real carved pumpkins that the neighbours have left out on the doorsteps and in front windows and then a socially-distanced catch up chat with a neighbour who I met along the way.

Yesterday Mr P made a cottage pie and I made an apple pie for our evening meal.  There's enough apple pie for our lunch today. 😊

Thank you for your visit and I'll catch up with you soon.  Meanwhile, have a good weekend whatever you're doing.
