A rich tapestry

July 08, 2020

Onward into July.

Blogging has taken a back seat recently as we've been busy in the garden taking advantage of days when it's been dry and the times when local grandson has been able to come over and help with some of the heavier jobs. Mr P supervised at a distance whilst S took out two of the cypress trees and roots from the thick hedge as they were growing too close to the back living room window.  The branches then had to be cut up and bagged up.  The sturdy trunks have also been cleaned and stored for later use in the garden as fence supports.  There was some more space in a flower bed which has now been planted up with roses, lavender bushes and some sunflowers our daughter gave us grown from seed.

The agapanthus flower heads and the roses have been in a sorry state with all the heavy rain.  However, there are many little rose buds and I keep deadheading in between the showers so that they produce more.

The robin is still flitting around and about in the garden.

What a difference there is in atmosphere and mood when the sun comes out!

We're looking forward to gathering those pears when the time is right.

I just love picking the sweet peas and bringing them indoors
and now that the lavender is in bloom the bees will be there especially when the sun shines again
- here's hoping....

During these rainy days I've been busy with my embroidery and crochet work.  My eyes have been blurry so I can only do a little at a time when I'm in the mood.

The tablecloth is finished!  I'm pleased with the result since it was a bargain buy from a charity shop, sealed up with the embroidery thread included.

We had our car serviced the other day and then went to look at the place where some allotments are located.

The allotments are off the road along this lane and next to them is a community farm which the locals can get involved in.  Since it's just around the corner from where we live it'll be convenient if our granddaughter is offered a plot.  Of course, it's locked up so we could only look through the gate.

I like the fact that there are bird feeders hanging on a tree in the lane and also on an old, dead tree stump. They look as if they need to be filled though.

We spotted the developing fruit of the blackberries on lots of brambles nearby and I'm sure I'll be back again on one of my walks in the area.

On Friday I shall be going to the city hospital for my mammogram screening that I continue to have around about this time of the year.  It's amazing to think that the three lots of surgery and then the radiotherapy was in 2016.  I'm still on medication, but feel thankful that I'm keeping fairly well.  I have to go on my own for the screening (as no-one else can come into the hospital building with me) and also wear a mask, but feel confident about it.  Last year when I went for the same purpose I had a bad fall down the steps of the car park building because of my dodgy knee problem so this time Mr P will drop me off and I'll take my time and be mindful of where I'm walking. Then he'll come and pick me up again when I'm ready.

Well, that's all my news for now.  I hope you are also keeping well in these challenging times.  Take care everyone.
