A walk in the park

There are several reasons why I like to go for a walk in the local park.  It's not too far away from where we live and in every season there's something to observe in nature or appreciate in the way the staff look after the grounds so that everyone can enjoy a stroll there.  Then, of course, it's a place I go to to collect the books I've ordered online from the library.  Yesterday was such a day and I was hoping to see the crocuses and perhaps some daffodils in bloom now that the weather is milder and sunnier.  I was not disappointed.

This willow tree branch was hanging over the old wall of the walled garden and since the gate was open visitors were going in to sit or take a stroll there.  

It's interesting to see the walled garden in Winter.  The climbing plants such as the roses and the honeysuckle around the pergola had been pruned.  It was the same for the rose bushes in the rose garden area.

 

The niches where the system for the old heated greenhouses that stood against the wall when the walled garden was part of the big house are now filled with 'bug hotels' and there are other features from that time when the big house was a family home and the present parkland was their estate.

I noticed the pussy willow tree in the garden.  Beyond the wall is the old stable block. Winter Jasmine creates a pop of colour against the old brickwork.

There's a new piece of artwork which looks similar in design to the bird cut outs that were made and painted by the local schoolchildren and placed on a fence in the park's Woodland Garden.  As I haven't been in the walled garden for a few months I'm not sure when it was done.  The greenhouses are full of plants overwintering there ready to be planted out when the weather gets warmer.

The blackbirds are active and I also saw a robin again.  They've probably found somewhere in the garden to build their nests.  

The local park is a green space that we can all enjoy and where nature can thrive.

These are the two books that I'm reading at present.  The Morville Hours is one of my own books. I'm re-reading the chapters about gardening in the early months of the year as it's about planning and creating a garden.  The writer takes the reader on a journey through the seasons and there are many interesting facts about plants, the history of the area and much more.  The other is one of the random books that I collected yesterday chosen by the librarian.  Growing Goats and Girls is as it says on the cover "Tales from the good life on a Cornish Farm".  Already I'm finding it an interesting read amusingly written and just the sort of reading that I need at the moment.
