Back to Redmires Reservoirs

The weather continues to be changeable.  Yesterday we were sitting out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and today it's pouring with rain.  Last week we went to Redmires Reservoirs since our daughter who's staying with us has never been there.  The wind was getting up and the following day was even worse so we did well to choose a good day to venture out.

Hardly anyone was about and we had no trouble parking by the old iron bridge where there's an outlet stream that runs into the upper reservoir.

the Upper Reservoir - one of three

Normally you can walk the path along by the retaining wall of the reservoir, but this time the gate was locked.  Instead we took a walk by the stream.

There's an overflow plug hole which allows water to drain away down it if the water in the reservoir gets too high.

Further along the road is Redmires Football Ground where our grandson used to train and play football with this local team.

It was interesting to see that a fenced off obstacle course for dogs had been set up on an area of the field.  Someone has been enterprising in setting up her small business out in the open air.

Then further along still we parked again in a safe layby at the top of a hill overlooking another reservoir and leading to a nature reserve.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed this blog post Sandra. I know you like seeing the old stones. There are plenty of them around here. Piles of them are probably ready to be used in repairing drystone walls. Thank you, we've had some dry days when we've been out and about and there's plenty to do indoors when it's raining.

    1. There are so many public trails that you could follow around this area you could try each one and see something different each time. We continue to make the most of dry weather days when we can get out and about.

  3. A beautiful place to visit especially to see all those flowers. Dog agility is a very competitive pass time and trainers make a lot of money from it. That course looks well set up

  6. What beautiful photos of a lovely area, perfect weather too for your guest to see it at its best. I didn't realise those yellow plants were evening primrose, they look so grand amongst the other wildflowers. I love the cow mural, what a fun idea.

    1. We go to favourite places when our daughter comes to stay, but we like to take her to somewhere new. We have many reservoirs to choose from and some spectacular views from the top of hilly lanes. We enjoyed the apple and blackberry crumble that our daughter made as part of our combined cooking of Sunday lunch. :)

  8. Lovely photos. The weather looks good too. I love the mossy walls and trees around the old ruin and the mural at the pub. It looks as if you had a super day out. Monday was lovely here but yesterday was such a contrast, cold and windy:)

    1. The day we went out to Redmires was the best one regarding the weather. We didn't walk in the woods because of the danger of falling branches as the wind was strong. We look at the weather forecast and plan our days out and about or in the garden around the hours of good weather.

    1. There's nothing better than a stretch of water on a good weather day. Glad you noticed the photo of the trees taken through the empty window frame in the old abandoned building by the stream. The mural is fun.
