Happy New Year!

We've had a good time with our family over the Christmas holiday period and as everyone has gone home I now have the opportunity to wish all of you, my friends, a happy, healthy new year 2016.
Due to the continuous rain most of our days have been spent indoors, either in our home or at our local daughter's house. As a consequence, I've not taken many photos recently except those of family members.  Hopefully there'll be other photos to share over the next few months using a new digital camera.  On New Year's Eve we spent a quiet evening with our daughter who had come to stay for a few days and we saw the new year in by watching the televised count down to midnight from London's Thames Embankment followed by the firework display. Then on New Year's Day we had a family gathering when nearly everyone was able to visit us.
Gradually I'm sure I'll get back into our usual routine and there are some events to look forward to in the first half of this year.
On Thursday I'm taking our local daughter and granddaughter to the ballet to see 'The Nutcracker' performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet Company which we're all looking forward to. As a Christmas gift a grandson has arranged for us to visit a Yorkshire vineyard near Holmfirth with wine tasting and lunch included so I shall book a Springtime date as it will be a good reason to see an area of the county that we've never visited.  Other gifts were garden and book related, being our two main interests.  With a pile of new books and a book voucher gift to choose others we shall be either relaxing with a good book or out in the garage/potting area sowing seeds and propagating plants in the new propagator given to us.
I'll speak to you soon and meanwhile I wish you a good week,
Linda :)

    1. Thank you Rosie. I'll just have to be patient about getting out and about and hope the weather improves remembering so many people have had a worse time of it due to the floods.

  9. I can't think of a nicer way to bring in the New Year than a quiet evening at home with family. I especially didn't want my mom to be alone so we went over and toasted in the new year with her as we watched the ball drop in New York City on TV. It sounds like you have some lovely things to look forward to, the ballet, a wine tasting and a new garden. It all sounds wonderful. Blessings to you in the New Year.

  13. Lovely photos Linda.
Ooh I love the sound of your presents - just what I love too!
I'm currently reading all the wonderful book lists on the web and then I'll be prepared when I visit a bookshop!
I hope you haven't been affected by the horrific flooding we've seen on BBC news.
I feel so sorry for the poor souls who had to leave their homes.
Staying warm and toasty is the thing in Winter.

    1. Thank you Shane. We haven't had flooding in our area this time although we have several rivers and vulnerable areas in and around our city. There has been devastation to villages north of us in our county and in parts of towns and cities such as Leeds and York.

  14. I meant to say "enjoy the Nutcracker ballet".
My granddaughters danced in that ballet in their end of year and we were lucky to be there at the time.
Such a special thing to do - girls together!

    1. It must have been a thrill to see your granddaughters dance in this wonderful ballet. Our two daughters and our granddaughter love Dance, especially ballet. It's a shame one daughter cannot be with us as there are only a few performances this week and she had to return home in the south of England.

  16. Hi Linda, thank you so much for the kind comments you left for me. I'm so envious of you getting to see the St. Petersburg ballet; I'm sure you had a lovely time. We've had the first round of El nino storms with lots of rain here in southern California. I wish you a wonderful weekend and it's a joy to know you via our blogs. Hugs, Pat

  18. What a great gift from your grandson! Did you enjoy The Nutcracker? My son and his girlfriend took my parents to a production here - it was my mom's first ballet and she loved it.
