August update

Last week was a difficult one as our much loved pet cat, Gino, came in one afternoon as usual and was
in a bad way.  He just flopped down and wasn't able to walk and then began having seizures. It was obvious that he was very poorly indeed and we took him to our vet who realised that he had ingested something poisonous and there was nothing that could be done for him.

  1. I'm so sorry Linda for your loss of dear Gino. Losing our pets is so difficult, especially when it is unnecessarily sad. I have lost 3 of my dear chickens in the past year and I would like to say that I am learning to deal with loss, but each one had a unique personality and was very near and dear to my heart. I don't think you ever get used to losing something or someone you love. I'm down to 2 chickens now, 1 dog and 1 cat, so we still have a house full, but I cherish my days with them more and more as I know that time will eventually take them away from me. My heart hurts for you Linda.

  2. Oh Linda, I am so sorry for your loss. Any animal lover knows exactly what you are going through at the moment and how you feel, our beloved pets soon become one of the family so it's just the same as losing a family member when they pass away. Sending my thoughts and lots of hugs your way. xx

  3. I opened this post and first saw that beautiful picture of Bradfield Dale and then......I read the sad news of your cat Gino, I wonder how on earth he could eat something poisenous. He looks so comfortable and sweet on the photos, can imagine you will miss him so much.

    1. Dear Janneke. The vet believes he drank from water contaminated by a chemical which was very upsetting to hear especially when he had fresh food and water available at home 24/7. It was an unexpected and traumatic thing to happen and to see him so poorly. Thank you for your kind comments. Gino was a very lovely and gentle pet cat.

  8. It's awful to lose a pet, however much we know in our heads that we will outlive them, but for poor Gino to leave this world in that way is truly horrible, even if it was accidental. He was such a gorgeous boy. We've lost many pets over the years, and are fearful for one of our beloved pair of miniature poodles at this time, as he has something wrong that the vet can't identify, but he's definitely not himself. The vet fears it something to do with the pancreas, which sounds ominous - but it's a 'wait and see' time for now. You all have our sympathy and prayers.

  9. Oh I'm so sorry to read this Linda. When I was a teenager the first dog I remember having as a pet died in a similar way. He came back from a walk and started panting heavily, then deteriorated very quickly. The vet thought he had picked up poison somewhere, probably put out for rats. My thoughts are with you, take care.

  10. Oh, I'm so very, very sorry to hear this. Poor Gino. I know how hard it is to lose a much loved pet and friend so you have my sympathy. You obviously gave Gino all the love he could ever want and a peaceful end, and Yes, they do leave a huge gaping hole don't they. xxx

  13. What a very sad and awful thing to happen to your lovely cat Gino. People should be much more careful when they use poisons and remember that there are animals living in the area.

  14. Thank you Rosemary The vet was very good with Gino and we know specifically what chemical he accidentally drank from the test he did and he has had other cases in the last year come into the surgery. One comfort is to know that it wasn't anything in our home and garden although it doesn't make seeing Gino so ill or the loss any easier.

    1. Thank you Rosie for your thoughts for us at this time. We were thankful that he got back home to us as he did at that time when he was shot at and badly injured. We were also thankful that the vet was so kind although the outcome was very upsetting.

  20. So sorry Linda. Our pets are such a huge part of our lives---part of the rhythm of the days. That rhythm is disrupted terribly and life goes to a disjointed beat when we lose a pet. Lifting you up.
